WordPress is introducing a new editor for the Gutenberg project, which has been in development since 2016. The new editor will allow users to create and edit posts without having to leave the post’s page.
The new Widget Group Block in WordPress Gutenberg 11.5, which was released a week ago, solves numerous issues and vastly improves the widget block editing experience.
The Widget Group Block is a new feature that provides a bug-free complete site editing experience to the WordPress widget block area.
Widgets for WordPress
WordPress Widgets are functions that are often seen in the sidebars and footers of a website.
Calendars, search bars, site navigation, and links to the most recent articles are all examples of widgets that may be found in the widget section.

Phase 2’s objectives are as follows:
“Customization” includes “Full Site Editing,” “Block Patterns,” “Block Directory,” and “Block-based Themes.”
The above remark implies that the “blocks” approach of website creation will apply to all sections of a website.
However, there were issues with the widget area that needed to be addressed.
In June 2021, a bug report was submitted regarding issues with the widget editor.
“Unless you utilize the “Legacy Widgets” block in the new Widgets Editor, I can’t replicate the structure of.c-widget >.c-widget title in blocks.
As a result, new widgets cannot be placed in blocks utilizing this unified design.”
One of the issues was that the Gutenberg widget block editor didn’t allow you to add a header to a widget area.

Adding a heading title to a widget worked well in the previous system.
Appearance of a Widget in the Past

WordPress claims that:
“This new block mimics the traditional experience of adding a title to a collection of blocks and enables you to group any block, making it simpler to move and arrange information anyway you like.
This ensures compatibility with previous themes when moving to the new editor, as well as a more consistent experience when creating widget areas.”

Two problems are addressed by the new Widget Group Block:
- “The markup of the resultant pattern is quite different from the traditional widget markup.
- When utilizing core/heading for the title, it’s impossible to modify the widget’s “title” markup and output.”
